Stephanie is from England. She first became interested in teaching fitness while living in the Middle East. She became AFAA certified in Group Fitness and taught at Vandenberg AFB for 2 years. Romania bound, saw her working at the Bucharest World Class Gym instructing many nationalities. Back in the US, Stephanie starting working at Sumter YMCA in South Carolina. She worked as a group fitness instructor, personal trainer and as the Fitness Center Coordinator. She helped with teaching and assisting in a YFIT lifestyle nutritional course. This all contributed to her earning YMCA Employee of the Year. Finally, Stephanie moved to Springfield, VA where she has been teaching at Phoenix Fitness for 18 months. "I love challenging people of all fitness levels. Especially seeing them work to achieve their TRUE strength, ability and thrive in their Fitness journey."
Danielle began practicing yoga in 2003 when she took a Yoga 101 college course, and has been a student ever since. She is a wife, mom of three, and social worker off the mat. She believes practicing yoga can have a profound benefit on one's mind and body. Danielle completed her 200 RYT in 2016 and has completed and additional 100 training hours in Yin Yoga. Danielle has always enjoyed different types of music, so mixing up a sequence to unique styles of music is one of her favorite things to do in a class.
Jill completed her 200 hour yoga training through CorePower Yoga in April of 2015. After completing her certification, she taught in Virginia before moving overseas to Kazakhstan. She continued to teach students of multiple levels overseas and is excited to be back in her home town. Jill discovered yoga on her first overseas tour in Mozambique and has been practicing ever since. She is also a certified health coach through the Institute of Integrative Nutrition (IIN). Jill loves living a healthy and active lifestyle and enjoys guiding her students to do the same.
Amanda was born and raised in Utah, graduated from the University of Notre Dame where she ran track, and ultimately, fell in love with a sailor, married him and landed in Springfield, Virginia. She truly believes fitness is a lifelong pursuit that takes many twists and turns and leads us to the best version of our self. Although her fitness journey began with running and heavy weightlifting, time, motherhood and a desire to be kinder to her joints lead her to explore alternate avenues of fitness and she discovered barre and mat based workouts like pilates. She loves to share the strength, flexibility and stamina of these formats with individuals of all ages from children to seniors. She is certified in Barre Above and POP Pilates and holds a credential in Senior Fitness. She loves to work hard and have fun and her favorite classes to teach are filled with groans and laughter.
Lauren is a Pilates Method Alliance (PMA-CPT) certified Pilates instructor, completing her comprehensive training with Balanced Body in 2013. Lauren believes that Pilates truly is for everyone and is committed to presenting her clients with individualized, fun, and challenging classes that are rooted in the Pilates principles. Lauren has always enjoyed an active lifestyle and discovered Pilates as an excellent way to increase strength, flexibility, and endurance. The wife of a diplomat, Lauren has spent most of the last 12 years living overseas. She has had the privilege of teaching in Europe, Asia, and the USA. After the birth of her second son, Lauren realized how beneficial Pilates was for her pregnancy and recovery. She decided to become a Pre and Postnatal Pilates Specialist from the Center for Women’s Fitness. Lauren is also a Certified Pilates Suspension Method (PSM) Instructor. Outside of the studio, she loves spending time with her husband and two boys, running, cooking, reading, and traveling.
Cindy has a passion for overall functional fitness, aerobic, movement and building muscular strength and power. She has been a personal fitness trainer for 7 years. Cindy is always ready and eager to try new strategies and tools to incorporate into her training. Her goal is to motivate others to improve and maintain personal fitness goals. Cindy has been racing competitively for more then 5 years, running 5K, 8K, and 10 mile races as well as 3 half marathons, typically placing 1st or 2nd in her age category. She has participated in mud runs such as Warrior Dash and Spartan Race. Cindy currently competes in Master's Division of Strong First's Tactical Strength Challenge which includes 3 dead lifts, straight arm pull-ups and kettle bell snatches. She has placed world record in Novice Division for Flex Arm Hangs. For fun, Cindy enjoys hiking and camping, snow skiing and snorkeling. When she is not at the gym, Cindy is singing; a classically trained vocalist.

Darina is a fully certifed Basi Pilates Instructor in both mat and equipment, as well as a passionate, internationally respected Yoga instructor. She will tailor a practice for you based on your specific needs. Darina was born and raised in the Czech Republic and currently lives with her husband and two beautiful kids in West Springfield.
Motivate the mind, the body will follow. Tricia Howerton is a military spouse and a mother of two. She discovered her passion for fitness and started motivating clients in 2002 after receiving her AFAA certification in group fitness. In 2003, she studied Mat Pilates and was certified through AAAI. After further studies in 2008, Tricia became Indoor Cycling certified. In 2010, she decided to expand her Mat Pilates practice to include training on the reformer. She attended a one year study of both Mat Pilates and Pilates on the Reformer and eventually completed her comprehensive Pilates training in 2014. In 2011, Tricia received an additional indoor cycling certification through the MadDogg program. In addition to her group fitness certifications, Tricia has held a personal trainer certification through AFAA since 2009.
Tricia has enjoyed leading various styles of group fitness programs over the years, but has discovered her passion lies in practicing Pilates and Indoor Cycling. She feels strongly that these two formats can both be successfully achieved by clients of all fitness levels.
In her spare time, Tricia enjoys spending time with her family, cooking, and studying interior design.
Shawn Thliveris has been a sports and fitness enthusiast all her life. She began teaching fitness while in college with water aerobics and senior fitness classes. After graduation with degrees in Recreation and Physical Education, Shawn worked in sports administration at North Carolina Amateur Sports and the United States Fencing Association. Fast forward almost 15 years and Shawn began taking barre classes in Amman, Jordan and fell in love with this amazing workout. She decided to return to sharing her love of fitness through barre. She trained with Balanced Body Barre and began teaching barre classes in Kyiv, Ukraine. When not at the barre, Shawn and her husband can be found at the basketball court or pool watching their two sons compete.

Anita began her Pilates journey 12 years ago when a friend invited her to a class. It was love at the first move and she has been practicing ever since. Her dedication to the practice and her husband's retirement from the Army lead her to start her training. She is a Balanced Body education level 1, 2 and 3 mat instructor and is currently completing her Balanced Body Reformer training. Her goal after a session is to make your feel stretched, strong and relaxed so you can conquer the world. When not in the studio, you can find her spending time with her husband doing something outdoors.
Meshell is fairly new to the fitness world , but she takes pride in learning her craft . She is bringing some new energy to the PiYoBa studio . Sweatvibes is a high-energy , high-intensity dance party for your body. Her speciality is moving to the music , having fun all while getting a intense full body workout. She is no stranger to group fitness has she’s been experienced having fun when you workout all her life. Married with two young children. Her number one goal is to feel good working your body , and having fun while burning some major calories.

Meet Our Instructors
Paula is a certified Pilates, Fitness and Dance Instructor who has worked for a professional West African Dance company and taught within the school system. Originally from North Carolina, Paula has more than 20 years of teaching experience.
Paula began her Pilates journey here in the DMV some 12 years ago when she became certified through Balanced Body. She has worked for private, commercial and government fitness centers as well as her own Pilates studio and holds many certifications. She teaches most fitness formats from Zumba to Kickboxing. She now enjoys traveling when possible and stays busy with her son, Franklin. Paula’s goal is to make everyone feel better when they leave class, than when they entered.
